Install Toilets

Installing a new toilet will save you a lot of money. After you do it once, you will be able to install a toilet for anyone. Installing a toilet is fairly easy and should not take a lot of time. Read this article to find out some tips and hints to make it easier.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To install toilets, emove the old toilet. Unbolt the toilet from the bowl. There are two bolts on the side of the toilet that are usually covered by caps. Use a flathead screwdriver to pop these off and use a wrench and socket to remove the nuts. Hold the toilet slightly forward to avoid spilling any excess water out (Yuck!)

  2. Step 2

Stuff a rag or paper towels in the drainpipe to avoid any gases from entering your home. Place a new wax gasket over the horn of the bottom of the bowl. Face the tapered end of the wax gasket away from the bowl.

  3. Step 3

Remove the rag or paper towels from the drainpipe. Gently lower the new toilet bowl atop the flange. Have someone assist you to line up the bolts to go through the holes in the toilet bowl. Apply a thin bead of caulk around the base of the bowl.

  4. Step 4

Hand tighten the nuts onto the bolts. Then tighten them alternately with the wrench to ensure an even seal. Do not over tighten the nuts as this might crack your new toilet bowl.

  5. Step 5

Hook up the supply tubes and open the shutoff valve. Install the tank above the toilet bowl. You have just installed toilets.
