Step 1
Stop avoiding your collectors. Call your collectors and explain your situation and there maybe solutions that both you and your debtor can live with. Coming to an agreement will stop the collectors from calling you. It may also relieve some of your stress if you have a plan to repay.
-
Step 2
At the beginning of a conversation with a collector, inform them that you are recording the phone call. After they identify themselves ask them not to call your residence or place of employment. Advice them to contact you by mail only. You can use other means as well like fax or email if you prefer.
-
Step 3
Write a letter to your collectors telling them that they are not to call you at home or your place of employment. Ask them to contact you only by mail. Be sure to sign and date your letter and keep a copy for your own records. It will be necessary to send this letter by certified mail so that you have proof that they received your request.
-
Step 4
If they continue to call report them to your states attorney generals office.
