Step 1
The Difference Between SPAM and Email Marketing
SPAM is unsolicited email that is sent to vast numbers of people. Spamming is illegal and unethical; using it to promote a legitimate business will cause you to lose credibility and may result in criminal charges. Legitimate email marketing involves building a list of clients who agree to have your advertising sent to them, usually in the form of a newsletter.
Opt-in clientele have the option of opting out of their subscriptions to your emails at any time by clicking a link that you are required to provide. Even though legal email marketing is not the SPAM, customers might still mistake your emails for SPAM and email SPAM filters may intercept your messages. -
Step 2
Build Your Email List
An important part of a successful email marketing campaign is building a large customer database. Doing this the legitimate way may take time, but it will happen. Ask every customer or potential customer if they would like to receive your newsletter. Many people will agree to receive a newsletter because it suggests information rather than advertising.
Spammers use illegal and unethical means of obtaining lists of email addresses, such as buying them from unscrupulous website owners. -
Step 3
Using an Email Marketing Service
There are several companies out there that will help you with everything but the content. Places like Aweber and GetResponse will give you the tools to setup an email capture box on your site as well as give you templates to use for your emails. You can then setup how often you want to send out emails with full tracking of sign ups and click through rates. -
Step 4
Keep Your Customers’ Interest
Once your clients have agreed to accept your newsletter, keep their attention by offering them something that they will want to read, or your email marketing campaign will meet with limited success. Simply bombarding them with advertising might make them lose interest and cancel their subscriptions. Offer them interesting reading such as informative articles and helpful tips. Coupons and contests will keep customers interested and compel them to keep reading your emails. -
Step 5
Email marketing keeps you in contact with your customers on a regular basis, and reminds them that you are there. By keeping them informed about sales, special offers and new products you are more likely to generate repeat business and a strong clientele.

on 6/15/2009 I have a small moving company in Charlotte NC. I have noticed that many of my clients are what I call "one-and-done." I do not get any repeat business from them. What would you suggest for someone in my situation? Basically, I need a new client every weekend.
