Things You'll Need:
- nice towel--can be used but not worn out
- stuffing for the inside--can use scraps of old towels for this
- needle
- thread
-
Step 1
Fold the towel over once, do not cut the folded edge. If it is desired, extra sewing can be done on this edge to make it look like the other edges, but is unnecessary and the pillow will look just fine without it.
-
Step 2
Looped and Straight Stitch ExamplesTurn edges of towel inward up to about a quarter inch and sew. The towel can be sewn bad side out and then turned inside out when finished--leave one edge open for stuffing and reversing the towel. The stitches that can be used for this are of course a looped or straight stitch. An example of looped and straight stitches are shown to the left, please use a mouse to double left click on the picture to see an enlarged version. (Turning the towel inside out is not necessary if one wants to use a looped stitch for decoration toward the outside of the pillow--just make sure traditional knots are to the inside of the piece).
-
Step 3
Stuff the towel via the end left open. Old towels, leftover material scraps, or anything soft that can be used as stuffing for the pillow. Washable materials are best if it is desired to launder this pillow when dirty. Make sure to keep stuffing materials flat or folded neatly to stuff the pillow--otherwise there may be lumps.
-
Step 4
Once stuffed, the pillow will need to be sewn shut from the outside. Fold in as much materials as was folded in from the sides and sew, using either a tight, straight stitch or a looped one for decorative purposes. It is recommended to use stitches that match the other sides' stitching. Make sure to try to hide the knots toward the inside of the pillow.
-
Step 5
The pillow should now be finished. Decorate if desired.
