National Transportation Week is a yearly event observed during the month of May. This federal celebration was voted into law by President Kennedy in 1962. National Transportation Week is a time to discuss all forms of transportation in America and all of the issues affecting this industry now and into the future. This includes travel through highway/roads, air, rail and sea. Below is a guide for consumers to become involved in this important national discussion.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Attend the yearly conference held in the official home city of National Transportation Week, Detroit, Michigan. The conference includes business to business events and consumer events.

  2. Step 2

Visit a train or air and space museum. This country has a rich history of transportation. See how far we've come in the area of travel and exploration.

  3. Step 3

Explore your local options for car pooling. Many companies have started putting carpools into their benefit packages and many counties around the nation have organized carpool programs. Consider participating.

Go green and organize a Walk or Bike to Work day at your company. If successful, see if your company will make it a monthly day.

  6. Step 6

Look at your current car and consider purchasing a more fuel efficient vehicle that will be friendlier to the environment.

  8. Step 8

Reconsider your transportation options for your next trip or outing. Do you have to drive or fly? Consider taking a bus or a train.
