There are many different ways to prepare tuna salad, but this is one that an 8-year old little friend once said was "the best tuna ever!" Serve it on bread as a sandwich (as this young friend had it), or on a bed of lettuce. Either way, it's simple and delicious.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12 oz. chunk light tuna packed in spring water
  • 1 1/2 Tbs. mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • about 8 slices of bread & butter pickles
  1. Step 1

Open the can of tuna and drain out the water. Try to drain out as much of the water as possible. (Cats always seem to know they will get this juicy tuna treat whenever they see a can of tuna come out of the cupboard!)

  2. Step 2

Empty the tuna into a medium sized mixing bowl. Break up the larger chunks with a fork.

  3. Step 3

Add the salt, pepper, and dry mustard. Mix well.

  4. Step 4

Chop the pickle slices into small pieces. Add to the tuna mixture. When served, every bite of tuna should have some pickle pieces in it, so you may need to add more than 8 slices, depending on the size of the pickle slices.

  5. Step 5

Add the mayonnaise to the tuna, and mix well. Some people like their tuna a little "wetter" than this. Rather than add more mayonnaise, some prefer to add a dash of pickle juice if it needs to be wetter.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a "light" mayonnaise to reduce the fat and calories in this recipe.
  • Mix this tuna salad right in a Tupperware container. It's one less bowl to wash, and you can simply put the lid on and store it in the refrigerator as soon as I'm done making it.
  • Be prepared to double recipe next time -- it will go fast!
