How to Siphon Gas From a Lawn Mower
Siphoning gas from a lawn mower can be an important part of putting the mower away for the winter season. If gas is left in the tank, it can become stale and end up hurting the engine or create a fire hazard in the storage garage or shed where it is kept. There are two main types of siphons, a pump siphon and simple siphon. The pump siphon uses a small hand pump to start the siphoning process and the simple siphon has to be bobbed in the gas to begin the siphon process.
Instructions

1
Remove the gas caps from both the lawn mower and gas can. Make sure that the lawn mower's gas tank is sitting higher than the gas can.
-
2
Place the end of the siphon tube that has the siphon pump attached to it into the lawn mowers gas tank and the other end into the gas can.
-
-
3
Pump the siphon until the gas begins to flow into the gas can. If using a simple siphon, bob the siphon tube in the gas until the siphon process starts.
-
4
Keep the gas can lower than the lawn mowers gas tank to keep the siphon process going until the gas tank is emptied.
-
5
Replace the gas caps on the lawn mower and gas can. Store the gas can in a well ventilated area.

Tips & Warnings
If the pump is not working properly, try placing the other end of the siphon in the gas tank. When using the lawn mower, only put in the amount needed. This will prevent the gas tank from storing excess gas.
Siphon in a well ventilated area. Do not smoke or have other open flames around while siphoning.
