Cutting Out Your Pattern on Fake Fur
-
1
Cut out the pattern pieces.
-
2
Turn the fur over so the fabric side is up. Pin the pattern pieces to the back of the fabric. Use the layout provided with your pattern.
-
-
3
Cut out the fur pieces, threading the bottom half of the scissors carefully through the fur.so you cut only the fabric.
Sewing the Pieces Together
-
4
Test your thread tension and stitch length by sewing two pieces of scrap fur together. if the seam gapes when you pull the two sides of your sewing test, en the stitch length is too short. Is the thread on one side of the seam is tighter (or looser) than on the other side, the tension needs adjusting.
-
5
Follow your pattern's instructions for the order of pieces to use in assembling the costume.
-
6
Smooth the fur away from the edges of both pieces you are about to sew. Carefully pin the pieces with the fur-sides together at a 90-degree angle with the point toward the seam edge.
-
7
Sew the pieces together. Some people remove the pins as they go; others let the machine needle skip over the pins and remove them when the seam is finished.
-
8
Use a straight pin to fluff the edge of the seam from the fur side to eliminate seam lines.

Tips & Warnings
Most patterns are made so that you can lay out the pieces on either side of the fabric. If this is not the case, when laying out the pieces, flip them so that the printed side of the pattern is face down against the fabric. This will reorient the pattern as if it were being laid out on top of the fur.
