How to Build a Kitchen Corner Table Unit

A kitchen corner table is a great way to utilize otherwise wasted space. Some kitchens do not have room for a full sized table, but have plenty of room in a corner for a perfectly useful corner table. This article will show you how to build a corner table that is paint grade, but you can use the same information with better woods to make a stain worthy table.

Things You'll Need

• Tape measure
• 3/4 inch plywood or thicker
• 4 pre-made table legs (or stair case railing balusters)
• 4 table leg brackets
• Pencil for marking wood
• Screwdriver
• Power saw (most types work fine)
• Sandpaper
• Primer
• Paint
• Polyurethane or other clear top coat
• Paintbrush

Instructions

1. Use the tape measure to measure the area where the table is to go. You will need to know how far out from the corner you want your table to extend along the walls, as well as the distance from wall to wall that will make up the front edge distance across the front of your table.

2. Measure the plywood and mark where to put the cuts to fabricate a triangle table top that fits your corner perfectly, using the measurements from step one.

3. Cut the plywood triangle to size.

4. Use the tape measure and pencil to mark where to put the four leg brackets. Put the ones on the long front edge at least 2 inches from the corners. Put the back ones in toward the front edge far enough that they will both fit side-by-side for stability. It is fine to have a gap between them, but keep them as far back toward the corner as possible.

5. Use the screwdriver to attach the brackets to the table top.

6. Attach the table legs to the brackets.

7. Sand the entire table, smoothing out rough edges.

8. Prime, paint and clear coat the entire table, waiting overnight between coats.
