How to Replace a Projection TV Lamp

Replacing the lamp in your projection TV may seem like an overwhelming and complicated task, but it's much easier than you think. Like any type of lamp or bulb, projection TV lamps need to be replaced every so often, and consequently TV manufacturers have made it relatively easy to replace these lamps. All it takes is a replacement lamp and a couple of household tools, and before you know it you're back in the business of channel surfing.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the TV set you will be working on is turned off and unplugged for at least 30 minutes prior to beginning any work in order to let internal components cool down.

    • 2

Locate the lamp compartment door, which is usually located under the projector unit.

    • 3

Remove the screws located on the lamp compartment door with your Phillips head screwdriver; there will usually be between two and four screws that need to be removed.

    • 4

      Carefully remove the lamp.

    • 5

Clean the immediate area around the now empty lamp compartment with your microfiber cleaning cloth.

    • 6

Insert the new lamp, making sure to follow the lamp's installation instructions. Some lamps shouldn't be touched with your hands as hands can leave oily residue on the lamp; this in turn affects the performance and longevity of the lamp.

    • 7

Set the lamp compartment door back into place and tighten any necessary screws.

Tips & Warnings

  • The lamp compartment door will be the small, square panel on the side or back of a TV set.

  • Never attempt to replace the projection TV lamp on a TV that is still on; you will get electrocuted.
