How to Make a Gobstopper
Sometimes known as a "Solomon Hindle," the gobstopper is a fruity, sweet and sour alcoholic beverage that makes a hit at parties. Although it's often made using pre-mixed powdered apple sour mix, it's quick and easy to make your own apple sour. It tastes much better than commercially prepared mixes and costs a lot less to make as well. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Blender
- Pitcher
- Long-handled spoon
- Drink shaker
- Long drink glasses
- 2 cups apple juice
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 3 cups sugar
- 2 egg whites (optional)
- 4 cups lemon lime soda
- 2 cups gin
- Ice

Pour the apple juice and lemon juice into the blender. Add the sugar. Blend on high until all the sugar has dissolved. Add egg whites and whip until the mixture becomes slightly frothy. This solution is your apple sour mix.

Add more sugar, apple juice or lemon juice to taste if you're not happy with the sweet/tart balance.

Pour 4 cups of lemon lime soda into a pitcher. Add 2 cups of gin. Stir in 1 cup of the apple sour mix. Blend thoroughly with a long-handled spoon. Pour the gobstopper into a drink shaker and add ice. Shake and pour into long drink glasses or serve over the rocks.
