How to Use a Windows International Keyboard

So, you switched your keyboard to the International keyboard option in Windows. Now what do you do?

You may have noticed that you can type just the same as you normally would on your keyboard, but maybe noticed your apostrophe and a few other keys no longer work like they use to.

Before you run out to get a new keyboard try these simple steps that show you just how to get the most out of your Windows International keyboard setting.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Keyboard
  1. Step 1

    To create a ' over letters, press the apostophe and then the letter.

    Press ' then press a to create: á
    Press ' then press e to create: é
    Press ' then press i to create: í
    Press ' then press o to create: ó
    Press ' then press u to create: ú

  2. Step 2

    To create a ~ over letters, press the ~ and the letter.

    Press and hold the Shift key and ~ then press n to create: ñ
    Press and hold the Shift key and ~ then press o to create: õ
    Press and hold the Shift key and ~ then press a to create: ã

  3. Step 3

    To create ë: Press and hold the Shift key and " then press e
    To create ÿ: Press and hold the Shift key and " then press y
    To create ü: Press and hold the Shift key and " then press u
    To create ï: Press and hold the Shift key and " then press i
    To create ö: Press and hold the Shift key and " then press o
    To create ä: Press and hold the Shift key and " then press a

    To create ê: Press and hold the Shift key and ^ then press e
    To create û: Press and hold the Shift key and ^ then press u
    To create î: Press and hold the Shift key and ^ then press i
    To create ô: Press and hold the Shift key and ^ then press 0

  5. Step 5

    To create a ` over letters, press the ` and the letter.

    This key looks similar to to the apostophe, but it faces the opposite direction. The key is often located at the left top corner of your keyboard and is often the same key as the ~.

    Press ` then press e to create: è
    Press ` then press u to create: ù
    Press ` then press i to create: ì
    Press ` then press o to create: ò
    Press ` then press a to create: à

  6. Step 6

    To create ¡ press and hold Alt and press !

    To create ¿ press and hold Alt and press ?
