A timeline really helps a child understand history and help understand what else was happening in the world during the timeframe that is being studied. Timelines help make the connections in history. One easy way to make a timeline, is to make a timeline notebook. Here is how to make one.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3-binder
  • printer
  • printer paper
  • colored pencils
  1. Step 1

Start with a three ring binder. Decorate the front if you want to.

  2. Step 2

Print out timeline forms and write in the dates that you want the timeline to cover. You can either do one to cover all of history or just a specific time period. The timeline will work better if you print it both front and back. I have a couple of resources for these at the bottom of the page under resources.

  3. Step 3

3- hole punch the printed timeline forms and put them in the 3- ring binder.

  4. Step 4

Print out the timeline figures for what you are studying. You can use either clipart or special timeline figures. Make sure you size them the size you want before printing. An easy way to do this is to copy the picture onto a MS Word page and size them up or down and then print the page out. You may have to play with it a few times, before it comes easily. I have some resources for clipart and timeline figures at the bottom.

  5. Step 5

Color the timeline figures if they are black and white if you want to. It is typically better to use colored pencils to color these in because of the fine detail.

  6. Step 6

Cut out the timeline figures and glue them where they belong on the timeline.
