Apply Hair Conditioner Correctly

In order to get the most benefits from a hair conditioner you first need to know the right one to buy and how to properly use it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    - DEFINE YOUR HAIR TYPE -

Fine is thin hair - Use a light conditioner especially for fine hair.

Chemically damaged hair - use a deep conditioning treatment.

Colored hair - Use a conditioner especially for color treated hair, along with a weekly deep conditioning treatment.

Long hair - Use a weekly deep conditioning treatment.

Short hair - You don't really even need a conditioner unless you have colored hair, it is dry or damaged, permed or any other unnatural processing done.

Dry or damaged hair - Use a formula that strengthen and moisturizes your hair.

Oily hair - You do not need a conditioner.
You should also pair your shampoo and conditioner to the same formula since they do counteract with each other. For example if you are using a conditioner for colored hair, use a shampoo for colored hair as well.

It is essential that you apply conditioner in the right way to get the most benefits from it.

  2. Step 2

Follow these steps to properly condition your hair

    - CONDITION PROPERLY -

Start by first shampooing you hair and completely rinsing it out.

Squeeze out excess water from your hair.

  3. Step 3

Place about quarter sized amount into the palm of your hands. (more or less depending on hair length)

    Gently rub your hands together.

  4. Step 4

Rub your hands through your hair from root to the tip.

You can choose to keep a wide toothed comb in the shower with you and comb it evenly through your hair.

  5. Step 5

Do not dig into your scalp, rather gently massage your scalp to your tips.

Leave the conditioner on for the designated time period the bottle says. If it does not say anything leave on for 1 minute.

  6. Step 6

Rinse out completely with warm water.

Now run cool water over your hair for 20 - 30 seconds.
