Don't keep all your cash in your wallet while traveling.

Traveling has many rewards, but also carries some risk, such as pickpockets or phony ATMs. Be a savvy traveler and outsmart the robbers. Take precautions before you leave and while in your destination to avoid being a victim and ruining your vacation.

Instructions

    • 1

Carry your money and credit cards in several places. Keep the money you need immediately in your wallet and keep the rest in the hotel safe. When you're out, split your cash even more, with some in a money belt and some in your wallet. If any one thing is taken, you will have backup.

    • 2

Take the bank phone numbers for reporting thefts or unauthorized purchases with you for quick reporting should something go wrong.

    • 3

Beware of bogus ATMs that swipe your credit card number for later use when you use the machine. Use ATMs in the hotel or at banks to lessen this risk.

    • 4

Use your credit card for big purchases so that you will be protected should anything go wrong with the product.

    • 5

Leave your checkbook, Social Security card and other cards you won't use at home.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hiding money in a shoe keeps it hidden--unless you're flying and you have to take your shoe off to go through the security checkpoint.
