If you have a few crafty skill sets, you can turn ribbon into many different wonderful things. If you can crochet or knit you can make unusual vests, bags, mats, etc. You can also weave it into place mats, photo matt, coasters, etc. Even if you only know how to curl ribbon you can make a crafty example of a bouquet. A woven mat to give grandma is an acceptable use of your time and love.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Once you have decided on your project, you start with gathering your supplies. Ribbon roses, you fold over for each triangle petal and keep going to build your rose. For buds you just wrap and fold tightly four to five times. For curling you hold the ribbon with you thumb with enough force to curl but not enough to shred. Practice will perfect your technique.

  2. Step 2

For crocheting and knitting you either follow a pattern or create your own. The stuff from the 70's and 80's are back in style now so an open stitch long vest is back as well as poncho's. The metallic ribbons are great for this application.

  3. Step 3

You can even wind ribbon of different colors or metallics around picture frames to give as personalized gifts for graduation, etc.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pick up ribbon from thrift stores, or friends and family.
  • Don't limit yourself to flat pieces of craft, when you can easily make book covers, and coasters.
  • If you are using ribbons that can't take heat without melting, make sure you tell the end user.
