Things You'll Need:
- Proper care
- Padded mattress
- Vitamins
- Protein

Step 1
To relieve pressure that can cause a bedsore a patients bed must be layered with a soft top. A good choice is something along the lines of an air mattress or memory foam. Since there are areas of the body more likely to develop a bedsore it is important to pad these extra well. This includes the knees, elbows, butt, head and shoulders.
-
Step 2
Someone who is bedridden should be rotated every 2 hours. This insures that pressure is not left in the same place for long enough to develop a bedsore. Because friction is also an issue, it's extremely important to rotate the person with extreme care and caution.
-
Step 3
If the patient is in adult diapers it is essential that the diaper is changed frequently. The bedding will need to be checked for any dampness and leaks. The patient should be dry as much as possible to prevent bedsores.
-
Step 4
Skin should be kept in the best condition possible and a vitamin should be taken by the bedridden person everyday. Proper nutrition and good skin tone are of extreme importance. A diet high in protein should also be implemented to maintain muscle tone.
-
Step 5
The minute anyone notices any soreness or reddening of the skin call a doctor immediately. Make sure that no pressure what so ever is on the point of redness. This should not be taken lightly and treatment will need to begin right away. Due to the graphic nature of what a bedsore looks like I have refrain from posting a picture in this article. Please do a search if you do not have a week stomach. Just viewing a picture will be enough to make sure all means possible are taken to prevent bedsores.
