Things You'll Need:
- Forceps, Blood stop, Small round tip scissors, Heating pad, whelping box, clean towels, thermometer, Calcium, Nutra/cal, suction syringe
-
Step 1
Shu after she had delivered a few you can see she is ready for another. When the pup presents it self do not remove the sac.
Let the Dam take her time to push it out.
After the pup is out take the sac off with the pups face down, you must do this fast you do not want the pup to breath in the fluids.
Remove all Fluids from the nose and throat.
Start rubbing the pup with a clean towel to make sure it is coming around ok let the Dam in on this also. When you are sure the pup is breathing ok on its own you then cut the cord. You take Dental floss and tie a knot about 3/4 of an inch from the tummy. Place some Iodine on the cord and then give the pup to Mom. Take the after birth and put it in a trash bag that you keep with you. -
Step 2
You know wait for the next pup it can take up to one and half hours for the next to be born. If it takes much longer than that you must get the Dam to the Vet. Once the birthing has started the placenta' s start to break away from the uterus wall and the pups could die if you do not deliver them fast. Most deliveries will be within an hour.

Step 3
You would repeat step on all of the pups, make sure they are pink and healthy. You need to check their mouths to see if the have a cleft pallet. If not you just need to make sure all are eating and you then can place them in a safe, quite and warm place for Mom to tend to them. You will need to make sure you have pig rails on your whelping box, so that Mom does not lay on the pups. Keep the heating pad under the towel on low. ( Never Higher ) For the next few days you should weigh them to make sure they are eating. they should double in size within the first 7 to 10 days. The Dam need to have an oxytosen shot after the delivery and an antibiotic to make sure the uterine is clean.
