Step 1
First, have your eyes tested. Especially, if you are over 40. As we age, our eyesight tends to weaken. You may need a pair of reader eyeglasses. Some Wal-Marts have eye doctors which you can make an appointment to have your eyes checked at a reasonable price. However, just get the prescription strength for the eyeglasses and walk over to the pharmacy section and buy the over-the-counter prescription glasses - they are much cheaper.

Step 2
Check that you have good lighting when you work or read. A soft light bulb is best as it reduces glare. Glare stresses your eyes.

Step 3
If you are on a computer all day, take 10 to 15 minute breaks every two to three hours. Another trick is to darken the screen of your computer monitor. I once worked for a programming company, and all the programmers turn out the lights in their offices and only worked from the light emitted from their computers.

Step 4
Rest your eyes by closing them. If you periodically shut them over a course of a day, you may can gain a hour or two of good eye rest.
