Dust off the old VCR and operate it with your Dish Network remote control.

Even if you do not know the remote control programming code for your VCR, you can still set your Dish Network remote control to operate the device. The Dish Network remote control operates as a universal remote, capable of controlling your Satellite receiver, TV, VCR and one more Auxiliary device.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your VCR. Press and hold the translucent "VCR" function button at the top middle-right side of the remote until all four function buttons light up (SAT, TV, VCR, AUX).

    • 2

      Release the "VCR" function button.

    • 3

Quickly press and release the red power button. The "VCR" button will blink and then remain steady.

    • 4

Use the "Up" navigation arrow to find the code for your VCR.

    • 5

Press and release the "Up" arrow repeatedly until your VCR powers off. Pause between each release. Each time you press the button, the "VCR" function button will blink. Take a moment between each press of the button to allow your VCR to respond by powering off.

    • 6

Lock in the code by pressing and releasing the pound (#) key once your VCR powers off. Set the remote back to satellite mode by pressing and releasing the "SAT" function key.

Tips & Warnings

  • Point the remote at the VCR's IR receiver while trying to program the device.

  • If you pass your code by pressing the up arrow too quickly again after the VCR powers off, quickly press the button on the front panel of the VCR to power it up again. Press the "Up" arrow two more times, then start using the "Down" arrow to get back to the correct code.
