Homeschooling your children is challenging at times, but it is rewarding at the same time. You have the opportunity to be flexible to create new adventures of learning for your child.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Discipline
  • Patience
  • Determination
  • Diligence
  • Curriculum
  1. Step 1

The first thing you will want to do is to determine whether homeschooling your child is what is right for you and your child. Once you begin, you will have to be consistent with it.

  2. Step 2

Be committed to educate your child. Based upon the age of the child, you are going to have to determine the learning level of him or her. You can do this by testing your child to know where to begin.

  3. Step 3

Finding the right curriculum for your child will also help to give him or her the inquisitive mind to learn with anticipation. For my daughter, she loves her schoolwork, because it gives her the education she needs, as it challenges her mind to excel with fun. There are many homeschooling organizations that have excellent curriculum that will give your child the education he or she needs to become a successful adult.

  4. Step 4

Once you have chosen a curriculum, you will need to set things in motion and create an atmosphere for learning. Pick a certain area where you can make it a classroom and decorate it with fun things for your child, especially for the younger ones.

  5. Step 5

Homeschooling is very rewarding, but it can also tempt you to become slack and not so vigilant with educating your child, simply because you are at home. Nevertheless, press on and stay focused with the intentions of the goal to achieve with your child, so become disciplined to persevere.

  6. Step 6

There are electives to choose for your child, such as art, music, foreign languages and creative writing, which is also part of the curriculum.

  7. Step 7

Find a homeschool support group in your area where the parents can share in their fields of knowledge and/or expertise. They usually meet every week and have a ton of things to offer for you and your child. One may have a musical gift and talent, another writing, another art and drawing. You can contribute, as well. There are also groups on the Internet for the parents to give you the support, so you do not feel overwhelmed and can receive a refreshing to help you to continue on.

  8. Step 8

Take regular field trips with the homeschool group or just you and your child. Visit art museums, cinemas for drama and plays, museums of history where your child can see first-hand the historical events that led us to where we are now.

  9. Step 9

Provide incentives to help encourage your child to continue with learning. Be creative with the education you provide but reward your child for his or her hard work, because it is well deserved!

  10. Step 10

Do not quit! You can do this, and by homeschooling your child, you are giving him or her the one-on-one time, attention with creative learning he or she needs that he or she will not be able to receive elsewhere. You have the ability to allow your child to learn at his or her own pace, and you can pour into him or her the education he or she needs to succeed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Homeschooling your child allows you the unique opportunity to give your child the same quality and level of education and interaction that will challenge him or her to strive with diligence to further his or her learning. As you watch your child learn and see the fruit of your very hard labor, you will feel proud and more content with your choice to homeschool.
