Tanned skin is flattering on everyone; but sun tanning can result in premature aging and skin cancers. That's where sunless tanning comes in. Sunless tanning allows even people who normally can't achieve a tan to get that golden summer glow without compromising healthy skin. Here are some steps to get a natural looking fake tan.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step to achieving a natural looking fake tan is exfoliation. Always exfoliate and clean the skin before applying any self tanner as it reduces chances of streaking and uneven coloring.

  2. Step 2

Pick a tanner that works for you; every tanning lotion is different and they all work differently on varying skin types. To find a self tanner that best compliments you, always do a small test of the lotion on a part of your body that is not very noticeable, just in case the lotion doesn't work well.

  3. Step 3

Apply tanning lotion from the feet up. Bending at the waist to apply fake tanner can leave creases and odd looking tanning lines on your stomach or arms. Starting from the ankles up will ensure that even, natural looking tan.

  4. Step 4

Always apply self tanner at night, right before you go to sleep. Make sure you have done all of your hand washing, teeth brushing, etc., so that you do not accidentally wipe off the self tanner and end up with tanning streaks.

  5. Step 5

Use lotion in order to lengthen the life of your fake tan. It can also help to counteract the smell that often accompanies fake tanners.
