A Sales Letter is a type of business correspondence. A Sales Letter usually introduces new products and services, outlines a current sale, offer or promotion, or introduces an existing business to new customers or markets. This business letter can range from very formal to totally informal, depending on the industry, the audience and the type of promotion.

Decide if the letter will be on letterhead, or some other form of paper. Most formal business letters are written on company letterhead (or personal letterhead, if you are a contractor or other service provider). But the Sales Letter can be more informal or exciting, if you choose. All types of promotional correspondence can be considered Sales Letters, including flyers, invitations, so a different format can often be used. Choose your format and your paper.

Outline your letter or correspondence. If you stray away from the business letter format and don't use letterhead, remember to include all important information (sender, contact information). The content of a business letter should be concise. Use the first paragraph to introduce the product or services. The second paragraph might add more details, or explain current promotions or special offers. The last paragraph should include an "action step" or a recommended action for the reader, such as "Please call Cindy for an appointment," or "Bring this flyer with you to claim your free toaster." For best results in a Sales Letter, you should tell the recipient exactly how to proceed.

Proofread and review your content, then print up your business letters. Generally a Sales Letter goes to multiple recipients, like your client list, or a new mailing list or new client base. Flyers are directed to the general public. Your sales letter might go to 20 people or 20,000!
