How to Remotely Shut Down Windows XP Computers

Computers on a local area network can be accessed by one computer with an administrative account. With this access you can perform several tasks, including shutting down each of the computers. Follow these steps to remotely shutdown Windows XP computers.

      Click "Start," then "Control Panel," "Performance," "Maintenance" and "Administrative Tools."

      Double-click "Computer Management."

      Right-click "Computer Management (Local)" and click "Connect to Another Computer."

      Click "Browse" and click the name of the computer you want to shut down.

      Right-click "Computer Management" (the name of the computer you want to shut down) and select "Properties."

      Click "Start-up" and "Recovery" in the "Advanced" tab.

      Click "Shutdown." Select the actions you want to perform on the computer under "Action."

      Click "Force Apps Closed" and choose the applications you want to force closed.
