How to Erase a CD-RW Disc
The difference between CD and CD-RW is that a CD-RW is rewritable. Most CD/DVD burning software is capable of erasing a CD-RW disc, but Windows and Mac both have the option built in to do it. You can fully erase a CD-RW or add to existing files on there. This guide will show you how to do it on both Windows and Mac OS X.

Insert the CD-RW you want to erase.

Open "My Computer."

Right-click on the CD drive you have the CD-RW in and choose "Open." This shows any files that are already written to the CD, as well as a space to add files that are to be written.

Select "Erase this CD-RW" in the "CD Writing Tasks" pane.

Click "Next" on the "Welcome to the CD Writing Wizard" that pops up. This will erase the CD.
MAC OS X

Insert the CD-RW you want to erase.

Click on "Applications," then "Utilities," then select "Disk Utility."

Click on the "Erase" tab.

Choose the drive that has the CD-RW you want to erase.

Tips & Warnings
CD-RWs wear after repeatedly being rewritten, so check the case for the life expectancy.
