Draw Throwing Knives

Throwing knives appear in comic books, animated cartoons and fantasy illustrations quite often. The deadly sting of a knife thrown by a skilled assassin is something intensely enjoyable for pulp artists to create. However, before you draw the entire scene, you need to master drawing the throwing knife itself. The Khukuri knife is one of the most infamous throwing knives. Drawing this curved and vicious blade requires you to isolate each shape before adding the details to these strange throwing knives.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Draw the right side of the blade with a slightly diagonal vertical line. Attach a slightly perpendicular line to this shape. Create the handle with a rectangular shape attached to the bottom of the blade. The base of the handle should flair out like a bell.

    • 2

Create the front of the blade by drawing a curved line that starts at the tip of the back of the blade and curves to the left and then down and back to the right slightly before curving back out again to the left. Add a parallel line inside this shape to create the sharpened edge of the blade.

    • 3

Draw two parallel lines that match the direction of the back of the blade. Place these coming out from the handle of the knife. Add three small rectangles inside the handle for grips.

    • 4

Ink the entire illustration of the throwing knife. Let the ink dry and slowly erase the pencil lines below the ink using a kneaded eraser.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you have drawn the knife, try adding it as a weapon in an illustration.

  • Be sure to let the ink dry before erasing the pencil.
