Instructions

    • 1

Apply etching. Create a geometric pattern using masking tape, or simply paint freehand images or designs using etching cream for glass mirrors. Paint the cream where you want the etching to occur, then allow it to dry for about five minutes. Rinse off the etching cream to reveal the design.

Glue found objects on to create a faux frame. Use blooms from silk flowers to create a garden over your bathroom sink, or glue on old buttons, seashells or driftwood for a romantic look in a cottage bedroom. Dot a small amount of hot glue on the back of each object and press it in place.

Paint your frameless mirror with paint made for glass. Paint a freehand design or use a stencil. You can create anything from a lovely grapevine design for the kitchen to a comical superhero for a kid's room. Paint can be easily be scraped off of the mirror with a razor blade.

Create a mosaic edge. Use smooth, broken tiles to create a free-form mosaic around the mirror. Apply hot glue to the back of the tile and press it onto the mirror. Draw out a shape for the mosaic and have fun gluing down various colors and shapes of tile. No grout is required.

Attach some fantastical adornments. Browse through your local hobby shop and pick up some cute animal shapes or three-dimensional letters or shapes that you can hot glue to your mirror. Consider creating a themed mirror. For example, if you are creating a mirror for a kid's bathroom, hot glue gecko shapes or small toy lizards onto the mirror.

Tips & Warnings

  • Create a large mirror by grouping four square, frameless mirrors together. Overlap the edge of the frameless mirror with objects or tiles to hide rough and sharp edges.

  • Consider the weight of the items you are adding to your mirror. Heavy mirrors with a mosaic edge will need a more secure hanging feature than lighter mirrors.
