Set up Insight Internet
-
1
Set up your Insight cable modem. When you purchased and activated Internet service from Insight, you should have received a package that includes a cable modem, AC adapter cables and an Ethernet cable. Pick a location close to a coaxial cable wall outlet to set up the modem.
-
2
Screw the coaxial cable into the modem. Find the coaxial cable (it is usually round and black) coming from the wall outlet. This is the same cable you use when plugging into your TV. Find the corresponding jack on the modem and screw it in tightly.

3
Plug in the modem with the supplied AC adapter. Locate the AC adapter for the cable modem. Insert the small end into the corresponding plug on the modem and plug the larger end into a wall outlet or power strip. The modem's lights will flash to indicate power.
-
4
Plug in the Ethernet cable into the corresponding jack on the cable modem. Plug the other end into your computer's Ethernet jack. If your modem is operating properly, your operating system should detect the signal right away.
-
5
Test and troubleshoot your connection. Open a browser and point it to your favorite page. If you get an error message, double-check all connections. If it still doesn't work, power cycle your modem: unplug it, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Consult your modem's documentation to ensure the flashing lights indicate a working Internet connection.

Tips & Warnings
If you'd like to hook up a router (or a wireless router) for multiple computers, plug in the Ethernet cable (see Step 4) from the back of your modem to the input of your router. Then, use additional Ethernet cables or wireless technology to network your home computers. Consult your router's instruction manual for more detailed information. Your modem can also be installed via USB if your modem supports it. Simply use the supplied USB cable and plug it into the back of the modem, then plug the other end to your computer. You may need to install additional software (also included).
