How to Apply for an Australian Birth Certificate

Everyone wants to have a birth certificate for their child from the country where the child was born. There are specific things you need to do to get a birth certificate from Australia.

1. Parents of the child are the only people who can apply for the birth certificate. Both parents' signatures will be required.

2. Provide three individual forms of identification that show they are the parents of the child, as well as to identify the person requesting the birth certificate. The parents must provide one form of identification for the child.

3. Make copies of the documents for yourself and to send to Australia.

4. Find a qualified witness to certify the copies you make of the identification documents. This could be a notary public, legal practitioner, or a justice of the peace.

5. Contact the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages to request the amount of the fee for the birth certificate. The amount depends on when and in which district the child was born. The registry will inform you about how and where to send the money.
