Things You'll Need:
- Vintage photos
- Scanner
- USB memory stick or computer disc
- Blank card stock for home printers
- Color printer
-
Step 1
Gather your photos. The key to a great vintage photo birthday card is a terrific image. Go through old family albums and pull out special images. Look for crazy baby pictures, old family birthday party photos, holiday shots or anything else that stands out. Come up with a funny comment to use with each photo.
-
Step 2
Scan your images. Use the scanner on your printer or take your images to a pharmacy or superstore where they have Kodak scanning equipment. Create high-resolution digital images and save them to a USB drive or disc.
-
Step 3
Open your desktop publishing software. Open Microsoft Publisher or Print Explosion or any software that allows you to assemble greeting cards. Select a blank template that matches your card blanks.
-
Step 4
Insert your images on the card front. Using the "Insert" command, place your chosen image on the card front, leaving a little room at the bottom for commentary. Go to the "Graphics" menu or "Edit and Insert" command and browse your USB drive (or folder where you saved your images) and click on your photo choice.
-
Step 5
Create clever text that relates to the image. Create a text box under the photo and input humorous commentary. Look at store greeting cards for inspiration or brainstorm with friends. Type in the text at the bottom of the photo.
-
Step 6
Continue the birthday greeting inside the card. The inside is usually referred to as Page 3 in your publishing software. Continue your theme or write a birthday greeting on the inside page of your half-fold card. Use an old-style type font that fits with your photo.
-
Step 7
Print the card on a high-resolution setting. Check that your spelling and placement are correct. Then print your card by following your software and card blanks recommendations. You may want to do a sample on regular paper first to practice inserting your card stock correctly.
