Things You'll Need
- ¾-inch Dowel, 2' long
- Drill and ¾-inch hole bit
- 2 4-inch square Blocks of wood, 1½-inches thick

Instructions

1
Drill one 3/4--inch indentation in the center of one side of each 4-inch square block of wood. The indentation should be ½-inch deep so your dowel will fit securely inside.
-
2
Sand the surfaces of all of the wood components to remove any rough spots in the wood and to eliminate any splinters. The wood dowel may already be smooth, but a little extra sanding will not hurt anything and may prevent unnecessarily snagging your towels.

3
Stain or paint the wood components of your towel bar to match the décor in your bathroom. Let the first coat dry before adding a second coat. Let the second coat dry.
-
4
Apply a layer of polyurethane topcoat over the stained or painted towel bar. The polyurethane will protect the wood against moisture. This is an important step, as steam from your shower may warp an unprotected wood towel bar.
-
5
Attach the wall hanger to the wall and to the back edge of the 4-inch square wood blocks. Make sure that the ¾-inch indentations face each other. Attach one of the wood blocks to the wall and place one end of the dowel into the indentation. Insert the remaining wood block over the opposite end of the dowel first, then attach it to the wall hanger on the wall.
