A cappuccino machine, also known as an expresso machine, is a steam driven machine that is used to steam the milk to make a frothy, creamy drink. Cappuccino machines are designed to add pressure to the coffee making process to reduce brewing time and produce an extremely strong cup of coffee. Even though all cappuccino machines may have their own sets of instructions, the following information is the basic process of how to use the machine.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cappuccino / Expresso machine
  • Small wide bottom pitcher
  • Water
  • Whole milk
  • Ground coffee
  • Hand temper
  • Coffee cup
  1. Step 1

Heat water. Each model of cappuccino machine may vary on its water recommendations. Nevertheless, you should fill the water tank so that the pump pipes are fully submerged.

  2. Step 2

Fill group handle. Measure the appropriate amount of coffee. Pack it firmly into the filter basket of the group handle. Tap the filter gently using the palm of your hand in effort to allow coffee to settle evenly.

  3. Step 3

Compact the coffee. To ensure that the water does not flow too fast through the coffee, use a temper to compact the coffee within the filter basket.

  4. Step 4

Fill cup. Lock the group handle in place on the machine. Position a coffee cup underneath. Turn on the dosage button. Allow at least 20 seconds for the cup to fill.

  5. Step 5

Steam milk. Pour the milk into the pitcher. Insert the machine's steam into the milk, just below the surface of the liquid. When the desired froth is achieved, remove the steam arm. Add the milk to the coffee.

  6. Step 6

Clean the steam arm. Wipe the steam arm using a soft cloth. Turn the steam on, once again, in effort to clean it out.

Tips & Warnings
  • Using whole milk will create a thick froth.
  • When steaming milk, the pitcher will become hot to the touch.
