Tulips are beautiful flowers that normally bloom in the spring. Once the blooms and leaves have died off, the bulbs can be safely transplanted. Many people transplant the bulbs and then just forget about them because you can no longer see them. Keeping them in a garden with flowers that bloom at different times is a good place so we remember to water them and not let them dry up over the summer.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Water the bulbs well after they have been transplanted. They should be buried three times deeper than the bulb is long. For instance, if the bulb is 1-inch from top to bottom it should be buried 3 inches deep.

  2. Step 2

Water throughout the summer. Keep the bulbs damp enough to not dry out, but don't keep them so wet that they will rot.

  3. Step 3

Mix some compost or well rotted manure into the top of the soil in the fall. Water enough to allow the nutrients to work down into the soil.

  4. Step 4

Cover with mulch to keep the bulbs from freezing in the winter. Then just let them come back up in the spring. You can remove the mulch in the spring if you like.
