Step 1
Start at your local library. Many libraries have tables or bulletin boards set up just posting events. Chances are you'll find lots of flyers and maybe even pamphlets and booklets advertising summer programs for your child.
-
Step 2
When in doubt, search it! Try Google, Yahoo!, or your favorite search engine and type in your city along with "2009 summer programs." You're likely to get lots of hits. Click on a few and see where it leads you.
-
Step 3
Check out your local newspaper. Often, fun summer programs will be listed for your children. If your newspaper has an online edition, check that out too! Don't forget local magazines and smaller, alternative newspapers!
-
Step 4
Ask your child's school. Schools often know about summer programs in the area or might even have their own programs. If your child's school doesn't, other nearby schools might. Call those too! Don't forget local universities and community colleges!
-
Step 5
Ask other parents! Often, family members, friends, and other people with children will know about at least a couple summer programs. Ask other parents at your child's school too!
-
Step 6
When in doubt, go to the Y! Your local YMCA/YWCA and other community recreation centers will likely offer all types of summer programs. Whether your child is into sports, art, writing, or anything else- you'll probably find something nearby. Check churches, parks, and museums too!
