How to Mow a Lawn Quickly
Neglected yards can be home to weeds and unwanted pests such as mosquitoes. Not only are overgrown lawns an eyesore, but neglectful homeowners are also subjected to fines in some areas if the grass gets too high for too long. An option for those with busier schedules is to replace the lawn with low-maintenance alternatives such as groundcover, trees, shrubs or patios. Mowing a lawn quickly is more about the preparation for the chore, rather than the job itself. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Landscape your yard in a way that is conducive to mowing. For example, put all of your flower beds and water features on the side of the lawn rather than in the middle where extra care would be needed to mow around them.
-
2
Move yard decorations, such as statues and windmills to areas inside of your garden rather than on the grass. This keeps a clear path for mowing more quickly.

3
Set a schedule for how and when you mow your grass to prevent overgrowth that takes more time to cut. For example, use a push mower around any unmovable lawn ornaments and features first to avoid having to take extra time trying to make tight turns on a riding mower.
-
4
Buy higher efficiency equipment that does double duty to save time. For example push mowers that mulch into a bag or riding mowers that have greater mobility to make tighter turns.
-
5
Mow in a pattern that is easiest for your yard whether you prefer rows or circles. A July 2010 study in "Popular Mechanics" found that neither method is actually better than the other, but if you feel one way is quicker than the other, the chore will seem to go faster.
