Step 1
PURGE AND MERGE
Start your organizing by purging those items you no longer need. This includes the clothing you no longer fit into, the shoes that are too worn to wear, and any random "kitchy" items.
Merge those items together that you use infrequently enough to stow away in the attic or garage. Group items together based on season, type, frequency of use, or size. -
Step 2
INSTALL SMALL SHELVES
Small shelves are a great addition to any room for storage of books, tapes, DVDs, jewelry, pictures, or candles. They are also fairly inexpensive and easy to install.
Use small decorative boxes for those loose and disorganized items. Clear storage bins can also help with quick identification of your personal things. -
Step 3
MULTI-PURPOSE YOUR DRESSER
Your dresser can be used for more than your clothing if you have extra drawer space. Try storing your makeup, jewelry, or other valuable and private items in your dresser drawers. -
Step 4
USE UNDER THE BED STORAGE SPACE
Long, flat storage cases are a cheap and easy way to utilize the available space under your bed. These can be long open bins or they can be found with specific storage sections for storing shoes. -
Step 5
UTILIZE SPACE BEHIND YOUR DOOR
The space behind an open door is often ignored but can be perfect for large hooks. These hooks can hold purses, backpacks, coats, and robes. The hooks can also function as a small closet-like space if your small room does not have an attached closet.
