Nothing says summertime like freshly squeezed lemonade served on ice with a garnish of fresh mint. Believe it or not, it is just as easy to whip up a batch of lemonade from scratch as it is to scoop out the powder. And it is better for you too! So pick up a few lemons and get the ice trays set up for your next picnic, BBQ, or children's playdate and enjoy a fresh pitcher of homemade lemonade.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3-4 good size lemons
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups ice
  • 3 1/4 cup cold water
  • fresh mint leaves
  1. Step 1

Roll lemons on counter to release juices, then cut them in half. Using a lemon squeezer (these devices are so useful!), squeeze approximately 1/2 cup of lemon juice. Filter out seeds if necessary.

  2. Step 2

In a pitcher, place lemon juice, water, and sugar together. Mix well with a spoon or stirrer until sugar is dissovled completely. Add the two cups of ice and stir until chilled well.

  3. Step 3

Pour lemonade into separate glasses or cups and garnish with mint leaves for extra brightness of flavor and color. You can use spearmint, peppermint, or apple mint leaves for variety. Add more ice if desired. Freshly squeezed lemonade will last for several days if refrigerated promptly. Lemonade is also great for mixing with cocktails!

  4. Step 4

Variation: Try adding fresh rasberries, blackberries, or a spash of gingerale to the lemonade for a new twist on an old summertime favorite!
