Aquatic Jogging is a very relaxing and enjoyable way to exercise. Just like it sounds, it is actually jogging in water.
The instructions that follow will lead both the swimmer and non-swimmer safely through this very beneficial exercise.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • swimsuit
  • swimming pool
  • safety vest
  • towel
  • skin care lotion
  • swimming shoes (optional)
  1. Step 1

The best place to do this is in a normal swimming pool. If you can not swim, use the shallower end of the pool with a lifeguard on site.
Shower and change into your swimsuit and swim shoes. If you are a non-swimmer or not a very good swimmer, place on a life vest.

  2. Step 2

Enter the swimming pool BY THE STEPS and walk in slowly toward the part of the pool you wish to exercise. With your feet flat on the bottom of the pool, stand up straight (you may hold onto the side of the pool to begin with) and with your knees slightly bent and relaxed, just jog in place. This is a good start to the program. Set your time based on what you feel is comfortable, remembering that this will make you tired faster than regular jogging. Breath normally.

  3. Step 3

As you become more comfortable, you can increase the length of time you jog. Or other levels may be more challenging, such as, deeper water, so that you are barely touching the bottom of the pool. Just remember to keep breathing normally. There are also pieces of equipment that can be purchased or may already be at your local gym that will increase endurance and strength. These are normally water weights, or paddles so that you can lift and push with the weights against the action of the water.

  4. Step 4

Upon exiting the pool - the water will have effected your balance so walk carefully and slowly. Dry off with your towel and replace all equipment that you used. Shower , remembering your skin care lotion warding against dry skin , and change into your regular clothes.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is especially fun in a group - even just two
  • The "Buddy System" works well. Take someone with you not only for safety but for helping to keep you in the program. To help you not to give up and not to be too aggressive in the exercise.
  • swimming shoes are optional, but they are to help keep your footing as well as health benefits.
  • Remember to breath normally, and to stop if you are getting tired.
  • Remember as in all exercise programs, to check with your doctor before starting a new regimen.
  • Obey all the rules of the swimming pool or gym
  • Take your pulse often if you are doing anything that is aggressive
  • Watch for others around you.
