Every person has had to deal with a broken window at some point in their live. This is actually a temporary fix because the argon cell had to be ordered. Here we take and glue a window pain into the window sash. Call it good until the argon filled cell comes in. The argon cell is substantially thicker than the window pain, that doesn't matter for a temporary glass. The glass is lightly glued so it will stay in place.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • flat blade screwdriver
  • silicone glue
  • utility knife
  • glass
  1. Step 1

The first step is to take out the window sash and set it on a good sturdy work area. Starting from one side remove the molding.

  2. Step 2

Work you way around the sash removing all the molding working as carefully as possible.

  3. Step 3

Keep snapping the molding out like this, it won't be easy.

  4. Step 4

Once you have all the molding off flip the whole thing over and cut the adhesive, like this.

  5. Step 5

Take the whole thing down to the glass shop and have them cut you a piece to match you sash or you can do it yourself. Run a bead of clear silicone adhesive all the way around the sash.

  6. Step 6

    Drop the glass in.

  7. Step 7

Add a bead of adhesive to the other side in the corner to make it seal better.

  8. Step 8

Snap the molding back in as if it were a double pain insulated cell. Use Teflon rolls or something similar as a spacer between the molding and glass. Remember they just need to stay till the glue dries.

  9. Step 9

Put the sash back in the window and let it set until the adhesive dries. You can see I used a screw driver as a spacer as well.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use spacers to fill the gap in the sash until the glue dries.
  • This is the same exact process for putting in an argon filled cell, minus the spacers.
  • Broken glass is sharp
  • Wear eye protection
  • Wear hand protection
