One of the problems with homeschooling is trying to avoid getting interrupted all the time. Even minor interruptions can cause you not to get the schoolwork done for the day or drag it out much longer than you intended. Here is how to avoid interruptions while homeschooling.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • paper and pen for a sign
  1. Step 1

Make a schedule. If you don’t have time scheduled aside for homeschooling, it is really easy to let things interfere with your school day.

  2. Step 2

Don’t make doctor and other appointments during school time. Respect your school time as school time. Of course, there are exceptions like if there is a specialist that you really need to see and that is the first available time, but it should be an exception, not a rule.

  3. Step 3

Ignore the telephone. Turn on your answering machine and screen your calls. Only pick up the telephone if it is an emergency. Telephone calls can really eat into your homeschool time.

  4. Step 4

Talk to your neighbors and make a sign for the front door to remind neighbor kids not to come by during school hours if you are not following the public school systems calendar or if they happen to have a day off. Once another kid shows up, it’s almost impossible to get your children back on task.
