Stress

Stress comes in many forms. We all face stress on a daily basis. Whether your stress is good stress or bad stress, your blood pressure goes up and your heart beats faster. The blood pumps through your body to provide that extra adrenaline rush that we all know well.

Things You'll Need:

  • Friends
  • Personal Time
  • Plenty of rest
  • Family
  1. Step 1

Start with plenty of rest. Rest can elevate your mood, improve your health and increase your energy level as well as your physical health. The optimal amount of rest can vary from person to person but on average, 7 to 8 hours of rest per night is a good start. Some people may thrive on as little as 5 or 6 hours while another person may require more. Whatever your "normal" is, make it a goal to maintain your optimal rest level daily.

  2. Step 2

Get some exercise daily. Whether you take a walk or do a full fledged aerobics work out, exercise will help your body to deal with daily stress and maintain its top functioning ability.

If you don't like exercise, enlist a good friend to work with you on this one.

  3. Step 3

Find a few good friends and make it a point to connect with them at least once per week. That doesn't mean you have to go somewhere each week but a phone call at least is a great start to friendships.

You might even consider taking a class with a friend and incorporating that into some of your alone time and friendship time. Whatever you do, remember that people that have friends tend to live longer and richer lives with a lot less stress.

  4. Step 4

Get it over with. If something is bothering you, face it head on. Whether it be a nasty boss, or a difficult situation, talk it out. The longer you wait the more stress it puts on you. You will relax more the sooner things are out in the open and you are over the confrontational part of the situation.

  5. Step 5

Take care of yourself. Whether it be a weekly massage or just some "me" time, take time for yourself. In this day and age we are rushing to do so much for so many that we often neglect ourselves. Your "me" time is a good way to rejuvenate and revitalize yourself.

  6. Step 6

If you are still overly stressed after trying the above measures, consider talking to your doctor about more ways to reduce stress including biofeedback, relaxation techniques and if all else fails don't be afraid to take medications to help reduce your stress level.

  7. Step 7

Often cutting something out of your daily routine will help reduce your stress. Don't take on more than you can handle and learn to say "no" when you are already overwhelmed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make it a goal to live a stress free life.
  • Prioritize what really matters to you and let everything else go if you are overly stressed consistently.
  • If stress persists see your doctor.
