Things You'll Need:
- study skills
-
Step 1
First of all, check with the colleges that you are interested in to see if they accept students who have GEDs. The more competitive colleges will most likely not be an option. However, there are many colleges that do, in fact, accept students with GEDs. Find out which ones those are in your area.
-
Step 2
Check with the college and find out what kind of ACT or SAT scores you will need in order to be accepted. Many schools require higher scores on the ACT or SAT in order to be accepted.
-
Step 3
Go through the rest of the application process. Work with a college counselor to help you with portions of the application that deal with your high school background. Finding a helpful college admissions counselor cannot be underestimated.
-
Step 4
When filling out your application, be sure to list work experience, volunteer experience and activities and clubs that you have been involved in. This can really help in some situations.
-
Step 5
Of course, complete your application thoroughly and make sure that you have paid all fees, returned all required paperwork, etc., just as you would if you had a high school diploma.
