Summer Activities for Kids - Playing in the Sand
Choosing where to make foot prints in the sand depends on if the beach approves it, if you are at the beach, and if you are stuck inside because of extreme heat or rain.
      • At the beach - find hard-packed sand by the water.
      • At home outside - Use the sandbox and moisten with water.
      • At home inside - Use two washtubs or other flat containers. Fill with sand and add water until compacted.
      • The sand must be moist enough to hold a shape.

      Summertime Craft Activity
      • To make the foot prints press both feet hard in to the sand so the imprint is at least ½ inch deep.
      • Mix the plaster according to the instructions on the package until it is thick.
      • Fill the foot imprint with the plaster mixture, pouring slowly so the mold remains intact.
      • While the plaster is drying cut a 6 inch piece of wire. Bend it in the middle and make each end in an 'L' shape.
      • Before the plaster begins to harden push both 'L' ends into the form. This creates a hanger for the mold.

      • When the plaster has formed and is hard, about 45 minutes, gently lift it out of the sand and clean the sand from it.
      • Set aside and let the foot print dry for at least one hour or check on the plaster container for instructions for drying time.
      • Decorate with paint, glue on beads or other items, or use any items you have around the house. Each child will create their own unique foot print.
