Sign up and take advanced education. New or existing Estheticians both need all the training they can get. Speed waxing, Eyelash extensions, new facial techniques. All will benefit you and your clients. The better you are at your job the better off you will be. For new Estheticians this is a must. Esthetician schools only prepare you for the State Board testing that you must pass to get your license. You will need to really get out there and take as many classes as you can. It is even a great idea to find a mentor. Someone that you can train under and learn from. This will increase your chances of landing your dream job at the Salon or Day Spa of your choice. Building your educational resume shows that you are serious about your new career. And your newly acquired skills will give you the confidence to grow as an amazing Esthetician. And you will know the difference between hard wax and strip wax if someone should ask.

Know your Products inside and out.

Research product lines. There are so many available to you that you will hardly know where to start. Look online and read as many reviews as possible when researching product lines. Also go to the companies web page register and request information. Some companies may also send you samples. really take the time to find a line that you are willing to stand behind. Also it is important that you find a line that will stand behind you as well. Try the products yourself. If you are interested in a certain type of peel or mask try it yourself first. Write down what you notice and feel. That way when you are giving a treatment you can prepare your client for what is coming. What I mean is if you are performing a Glycolic peel on a client for the first time you want them to be ready. Let them know if it will be itchy, burn or sting. This way you will also be aware of any reactions that are not in the normal range as well. Advanced education plays a key role here as well. You can not and should not perform any services that you have not been properly trained for.

Get to know all equipment. New and Current

Attend trade shows. this is the best place to see, feel , touch and smell new products. You will also be able to see what types of new equipment is coming out and new innovative services that you can learn about and offer. Take time to really get to know your career. Seasoned and new Estheticians are only as great as they strive to be. Keep an open mind and always be willing to learn. Get out there and get a facial yourself. But don't let the Esthetician know that you are in the same field. It will greatly change the dynamic of your appointment.

Always keep business cards with you. You never know when you will need them.

Most importantly , Do everything by the book. Never ever stray from procedure. This will create bad habits. And bad habits are hard to break. Continue your education through out your career. The more time you invest in yourself the more valuable you will be to your clients and to the salon or spa that you work in. Always promote yourself in a positive manner. See my article on ~ How to increase traffic to your business~ There are some great strategies there to grow your business. Along with great marketing tools to use. Also please be very careful not to get involved with any salon or spa drama. It creates a negative work environment. You are in the field of comfort and relaxation, try to keep it that way. Enjoy your job. Being an Esthetician is rewarding and exciting. Good luck and have fun.
