1
Locate and repair what caused the water stain. The cause could be a roof leak, a leaking pipe or window, or another cause. Repairing the cause ensures that no more water gets to the Sheetrock after you clean the stains.
-
2
Mix detergent and water in a bucket. Put on rubber gloves and eye protection. Dip a stiff brush into the mixture, and scrub the stained area of Sheetrock.
-
-
3
Inspect the scrubbed area to see if stubborn stains are still visible.
-
4
Mix 1/4 to 1/2 cup of bleach per 1 gallon of water in the bucket. Open a door or window, to allow adequate ventilation inside the room.
-
5
Dip the brush into the bleach and water mixture, and scrub the stain.
-
6
Rinse the scrubbed area with water, making sure that you don't soak the Sheetrock.
-
7
Allow the Sheetrock to dry, and look for any remaining stains. Scrub the stains with the bleach and water mixture, and rinse with water, if necessary.
