There comes a time when you have extended the life of you vehicle to long, some times to an even unsafe point and you have no other option but to get rid of your clunker. Some people hesitate getting rid of it just because they just don't know what to do with it. Many times the vehicle is just left in the front yard and becomes an eye soar. Don't let this happen you could actually make some money with your clunker. There are a few steps you will have to take to get some cash for your clunker.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing you should do is look for the good parts of the vehicle. The vehicle might look like a clunker but the truth is there are many parts that are still good on the car. If the car is a common model there will be other people looking for parts to fix their vehicle and if you offer the part from your car to them so they can fix their vehicle they will most certainly pay you for it. Once you have found any good parts put an add on the newspaper advertising vehicle parts for sale and specify the type of vehicle. Also try to sell some of the parts on eBay. Just take pictures of the car and the good parts and place them on eBay. You will be suppressed how many people buy used vehicle parts on eBay

  2. Step 2

The second thing you should do after you gave it a few weeks on eBay or the newspaper and sold the good parts is pick the car for and aluminum, copper, stainless steel, or any precious metals that are found in the catalytic converter. Cars are made of all kinds of metals and not all metals are created equal. Some metals are worth more than others and if you are able to remove these metals from your clunker and sell them you will get the prime rate for these metals. The first place you should look is under the car for the catalytic converter and cut them out. These can bring up too $50.00. Then take a look at the rims on some models they are made of aluminum and those can bring some good money too. Look for these metals and you can get some decent money for them at the recycling place.

  3. Step 3

The third thing you should do is take the rest of the car to the recycling place all together after you sold all the good parts and took all the good metals. There will be a few things you will need to do before you are able to take it in. You will have to empty the gas tank and after you have done that you will have to drill two 3" holes in the gas tank or the recycling yard will not take it. Also the vehicle will need to be completely empty. They will not take it if it has trash or junk inside it. They will weigh the vehicle and give you what it is worth according to its weight. That's how you get cash for your clunker.

on 6/9/2009 With so many recycling yards around, there is no reason a junk car should sit in the drive way. Selling it off piece by piece could make sense as the pieces are usually worth more than the whole! Great ideas!
