How to Clean a Tarnished Silver Ring

Clean your ring with baking soda and aluminum foil.

Silver jewelry is a beautiful accessory. If it starts to tarnish, however, the look will be ruined. A professional cleaning substance can restore the look of the jewelry, but it can be expensive. Instead, try an easy remedy made from items you probably already have in your home.

Things You'll Need

• 1 tablespoon baking soda
• 1 tablespoon salt
• 1 cup hot water
• Aluminum foil
• Bowl or plate

Instructions

1. Cover a bowl or plate with aluminum foil, silver side up.

2. Add hot water, 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of salt to the bowl and mix it until the powder dissolves.

3. Place the tarnished silver ring in liquid for at least 10 minutes.

4. Rinse the ring and dry it to reveal the shine.

Tips & Warnings

• This works on any silver jewelry.

• If the piece of jewelry is very expensive I would advise getting it professionally cleaned - even though this method should not harm the jewelry I cannot guarantee this.
