Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional both include an administrator account that is named Administrator. By default, there is no password for the account, unless you set one when you are first installing Windows XP. To ensure that no one uses the Administrator account without your authorization, you can create a password for it at any time. To do so, you will need to log in to the Administrator account from the Welcome screen.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start your computer. At the Welcome screen, click the account named Administrator to log in. If the Administrator account is not displayed, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE twice. This will open a login window.

  2. Step 2

Type "Administrator" in the User Account box in the Login window. Leave the password box blank. Click the "OK" button to log in to the Administrator account.

  3. Step 3

Click the "Start" button, then click "Control Panel" in the Start menu. This opens the Control Panel window.

  4. Step 4

Click the "User Accounts" tool in the Control Panel window to open the User Accounts window. In the User Accounts window, click on the Administrator account, then click "Create a Password."

  5. Step 5

Enter the password you have chosen, then enter it a second time to confirm. Click the "Create Password" button to complete the process.
