Turn the volume of your Xbox Live Headset all the way down by rotating the volume control to the left. This will ensure that when you connect the device, no sudden feedback or noise will damage the audio ear piece.

Insert the connector into the expansion port of your game controller. This is an audio jack at the back of each Xbox controller that can accept a 2.5m headset connection.

Put on the headset over your head. The Xbox Live Headset is not built to be placed so it hangs around the back of the head; this will make the device fall from your ears.

Adjust the microphone about an inch away from the mouth, with the microphone opening pointed toward you and not along its axis. Keeping it slightly away from your mouth will prevent the microphone from catching any breathy noises during voice chat.
