  1. Step 1

Open the "Control Panel" section on your computer system by clicking the "Start" button. Within a few seconds, more options will appear for you to browse through.

  2. Step 2

Look for the "Add and Remove" option or "Programs and Features" link to begin uninstalling McAfee VirusScan.

  3. Step 3

View the complete list of installed applications on your computer system. To quickly find the McAfee VirusScan program, click the "Name" tab located at the top of the listed applications. This will sort them alphabetically, making it easier to find your desired program.

  4. Step 4

Highlight McAfee Security Center in the list and click the "Change/Remove" button. Within a few seconds, a McAfee pop-up window will appear. All of the McAfee components added to your computer system will be instantly shown to you.

  5. Step 5

Place a check inside of the box next to "VirusScan" by clicking it. If there are other McAfee programs you'd like to uninstall such as the personal firewall or SiteAdvisor, they can also be removed in this step.

  6. Step 6

Click the "Remove" button located at the bottom of the McAfee window. A warning will immediately notify you that you're about to delete a program. Select the "Remove" button again to continue with the removal process of McAfee VirusScan. It will take a short time for the chosen files to be completely taken off your current computer system. Download the McAfee Removal Tool from the support website. Save the downloaded file to an easy to find location on your computer's hard drive. Depending on your Internet connection speed, it usually takes a short time to fully download the file.

  9. Step 2

Shut down any McAfee applications that may be running on your computer system. Open the newly downloaded McAfee Removal Tool file by clicking onto it twice. If you're running Windows Vista on your computer, you'll need to right click the file and choose the "Run as Administrator" link before opening. This will give you full administrative rights to make major changes to your computer.

  10. Step 3

Watch as the removal tool begins to delete McAfee VirusScan and any other McAfee programs from your computer. As soon as this process finishes, you'll be asked to restart your computer system. All McAfee programs will no longer exist the next time your computer runs.
